Beavers
By Kaylee
Would you like to learn about beavers? Beavers live in North America. They mostly live in rivers, lakes, and streams. They have a scaly tail and webbed feet. Their teeth are orange. They eat bark, twigs, leaves, roots, water, and plants. Their predators are wolves, bears, otters, hawks, cougars, and owls. They are also rodents. They follow each other and are great engineers. It defends itself by slapping its tail against the water. Did
you know that the beaver can hold its breath under the water for fifteen minutes?
Have you ever heard the expression, “busy as a beaver?” The reason people say that is because beavers are energetic, hard workers. For example there is an Indian legend
that tells about the Great Spirit building the earth with the help of the beavers.
Beavers have distant cousins. You can recognize them by their teeth.
And that’s what beavers are like!
