Introduction
Virginia Beach City Public Schools implemented the Computer Resource Program in the fall of 1998. This program assigned a Computer Resource Specialist to each elementary, middle, and high school to be available for instructional, administrative, and technical support within the school. The CRS’s primary responsibility is to promote and assist the teachers and students with the integration of computer technology into teaching and learning.
Computer Resource Lab
At Windsor Oaks, our Computer Resource Lab houses 29-networked Windows XP computers, a flatbed scanner, and two Hewlet-Packard color laser printers. Our school network affords every student Internet access in the Computer Resource Lab. Library Media Center, and each individual classroom. Also available in the Lab are a Hitachi digital white board and a presentation projector while allows for the viewing of the instructor’s computer screen by the entire class. Computer Resource time is scheduled bimonthly for every class. Additional time is available at the teacher’s discretion. Fifth grade classes are blocked a fifty-minute visit, while the remaining grade levels receive a forty-minute block. Time in the Lab is imperative to meet the Virginia Beach Computer/Technology Proficiencies, implemented by the school system to increase the technology knowledge of our students, and integrate technology into the core curriculum. Classroom Technology
Each grade level classroom (K – 5) is equipped with three networked computers and a networked printer.
Building Technology
We are fortunate to have additional technology equipment available for use throughout the school. Digital cameras, video cameras, a cart of 30 AlphaSmart machines, four carts of wireless laptop computers (88 total laptops), and mobile projector carts are available for use throughout the building.
