| The
mathematics program strives to have students begin to assume
more responsibility for their own learning as mathematics
concepts become
increasingly abstract. Student proficiency with basic number facts, place
value, addition, subtraction, estimation, problem solving, time, money, multiplication
and division, measurement, fractions, geometry and
probability are emphasized.
Language
arts is a literature-based, integrated program. The
program provides a balanced approach to the teaching
of reading, writing, spelling and English.
The science objectives stress the importance
of a variety of hands-on investigations, to study the
life, physical,
and earth sciences. Students will use science skills
to explore the world around them.
In social studies, emphasis will be on the
regions of the United States and the introduction to Virginia's
five
geographic regions.
The health program provides the necessary information
to make reasoned choices regarding a broad range of health
topics while taking control of their own health.
