Windsor Oaks Elementary commits to promoting strong parental involvement through the following activities:
- Initiatives that involve parents and families in supporting their children’s learning including: parent/teacher conferences, open house, scheduled grade level programs on PTA nights, Parent workshops, Math Night, Reading Night, and the Parents as Partners Book Club.
- Ongoing quality two-way communications between parents and teachers will be provided by regular use of conferences, phone conferences, weekly teacher reports, email and the monthly newsletters (Oakleaf). If special communications are needed, every reasonable effort will be made to meet those needs.
- Parents will be provided with results of their child’s performance as directed by the VBCPS. Methods will include report cards, progress reports, phone calls from teachers, weekly reports, and graded papers sent home. Results of assessments administered by the division to measure student performance (SOL/STAN 10) will be provided to parents in writing, including a description of the results.
- The Planning Council and the Title I staff develop the Title I Compact for Windsor Oaks Elementary. The Compact is distributed to 100% of families and requires signatures of teachers, parents/guardians, and students.
The above activities are coordinated with the PTA, School Planning Council, faculty, staff and administration of Windsor Oaks Elementary.
The usefulness of our policy to build strong parent involvement will be measured through parent surveys and evaluation forms for each activity. The collected data will be used for continuous improvement.
