Reading Resource

The Reading Specialist provides support for teachers and students in the areas of reading and writing to support the goal of raising student achievement and SOL scores.
The Reading Specialist instructs small groups of at-risk students in grades three, four, and five. The Soar to Success program is used for remediation, as well as other appropriate supplemental materials.
The Reading Specialist teaches classroom lessons to provide support for the Standards of Learning testing. These include writing lessons to familiarize the students with the scoring, as well as reinforcing test taking strategies.
The Reading Specialist collaborates with the Title I teachers to make sure that the remediation needs for each grade level are being met.
The Reading Specialist orders, organizes and maintains a resource room of materials and guided reading books. The Reading Specialist aids the teachers in the selection of level appropriate materials.
