Second Grade

| Second
grade is an exciting year for students at Windsor Oaks Elementary
School. Our six reading themes
cover topics from pets, nature, and friends to families and
folktales. We learn special strategies to help us master
basic math facts, and we begin to work with larger (two and
three-digit) numbers as we begin regrouping in addition and
subtraction. Our social studies curriculum takes us
on a trip through our neighborhood, our community, our state,
our nation and, finally, around our world as we study about
American Indians, famous Americans, and learn about Ancient
Chinese and Egyptian civilizations. Our new science
curriculum is filled with hands-on activities that help us
to learn about plants and animals, matter, machines, and
the weather. Second graders enhance reading comprehension
while earning points that can be exchanged for rewards through
the Accelerated Reader Program. Our rich curriculum
provides us with many opportunities to correlate our SOL
objectives with field trips that enhance our science and
social studies curriculums. This school year promises
to be a wonderful educational experience for our second graders
here at Windsor Oaks! |
