Third grade is an exciting year for students at Windsor Oaks Elementary School! It is the first year they receive letter grades for their work and are reading to learn rather than learning to read! Our reading series includes a variety of genres and opportunities to explore these genres. Our guided reading program allows for small group and peer interaction. Fortunately, our students have access to the Accelerated Reader program which encourages them to read to earn points as well as to earn various rewards.
The math curriculum begins with adding and subtracting multidigit numbers, followed by multiplication, division, geometry, fractions, and measurement. Our math games and computer activities make learning fun!
The science curriculum is filled with hands on activities that help us learn about matter, simple machines, animal adaptations, cycles found in nature, and the environment.
Social studies includes exploring the ancient civilizations of Greece, Rome and Mali, map skills, geography, four famous explorers, economics, and government.
Our third graders have the opportunity to experience several in-school as well as out of school field trips which enhances their retention of SOL related material. As a result of our extensive curriculum, field trips, and technology, we find our third graders are fully prepared for their SOL testing in May. |
