Third Grade
|
| Third
grade is an exciting year for students at Windsor Oaks
Elementary School. Our new reading series includes
a variety of genres. The students will be reading stories
and responding to them in their journals. We
have implemented the Guided Reading program which allows
for more small group interaction. Our math curriculum
begins with adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers and
also covers multiplication, division, geometry, fractions,
and measurement as our school year continues. Our science
curriculum is filled with hands-on activities that help us
learn about habitats, simple machines, gardening, and matter. We
have the opportunity to include some excellent projects to
help us incorporate our SOLs into each topic. The social
studies curriculum begins with a unit on map skills. Other
units for this subject are explorations and settlements,
Greece, Rome, Mali, our economy, and learning about governing
ourselves. Third graders also learn how to write in
cursive and in January, begin writing more assignments in
cursive. Furthermore, our students are part of the
Accelerated Reader program in which they earn points through
reading comprehension in exchange for rewards. Our
extensive curriculum provides us with many opportunities
to relate our SOL objectives so that we are all fully-prepared
for the spring SOL test. |
